It happened to rain one day, and students were so upset that they were unable to go outside to play. \r\nTo my biggest surprise, students loved the Jenga type wood puzzle game more than I expected them to. We adjusted the height to keep little finger from the laptop so that only adults can access it. We used the wiggle eyes on our jellyfish crafts after reading ocean themed books. The crayons have been used in a variety of crafts (like the puffer fish one from our ocean week), as well as several reading and math practice activities that involve color. Lastly, our sentence strips will be used tomorrow to help make crowns for our ABC Countdown day letter Qq, since we have some Queens and Kings in the room. The generosity we received during this project was amazing! \r\n\r\nWe received our incubator and our students were so thrilled. We were able to get more eggs from a local farmer and decided to hatch a second round of chicks. My students were so excited when I shared that some of our donations came from people who we knew and some of our donations came from anonymous donors. They could not believe that someone who doesn't even know us, wanted to help us! What a great lesson to learn about generosity! \r\n\r\nOur new incubator was an upgrade from the one we had, it holds more eggs and my students noticed that right away! The were excited that we had the opportunity to hatch more eggs. We checked our eggs daily, watched, and waited for the eggs to hatch. We were excited that all but two eggs hatched and we got the opportunity to take care of some chicks again. \r\n\r\nThis project is going to allow us to share this experience and hands on learning for years to come. This project was for all of the 2nd graders at our school. When the boxes started rolling in, the students were so excited to see what was inside of them. The first order of business was Mother's Day surprises!\r\nStudents loved being creative and making special things for their mothers to enjoy! Next on the list was planting. Some students chose flowers where others were more inclined to choose vegetables. No matter which direction students leaned towards they were excited to actually plant seeds and watch them start to grow. We have talked a lot this spring about the cycle of a plant and how it starts as a seed, so the clear cups were an important part of this lesson for students to be able to view the roots when they start to form.
