Your support encourages and inspires our classroom to the the best we can be, to work hard, and to spread kindness. This project will allow my students to have the supplies we need to help our classroom run more efficiently, allow us to organize (and find supplies that were misplaced/boxed up from our recent move), and to restock supplies as we use them. \r\n I cannot express how much I appreciate and continue to be in awe of how much support and kindness we have received for our projects. We use the laminating sheets often to preserve art work/crafts and supplies that we use daily. The shelves for our new closet are allowing us to organize and store supplies that students need daily. It is so nice to be able to walk in the closet and find new crayons, instead of looking through boxes, and the sentence strips, we just used to make pumpkin hats for our pumpkin week! \r\n My students were shocked that we had another project funded, they were excited to see all the new supplies that we received. The word spread like wildfire that the new playground items had arrived. I have waited a week or so to send out a letter describing the impact that way all students K-2 had an opportunity to use the new equipment. All students have been overjoyed and busy, busy, busy when on the playground! It happened to rain one day, and students were so upset that they were unable to go outside to play. \r\nTo my biggest surprise, students loved the Jenga type wood puzzle game more than I expected them to. I even heard several students talking strategy about how to pull blocks gently. There are not words that could express how thankful I am. \r\n My students were very excited when the boxes arrived. We have discussed, written down ideas, and designed plans about how to use our new raised garden beds. We have even invited other grade levels to come by and watch, observe, and join in the with the growing process. \r\n Our first project is to read the book, Pumpkin Jack, then we will carve a pumpkin and watch it while it goes through the process of rotting, decomposing, and sprouting new life this spring. My students are so excited to be able to watch this process outside in the pumpkin's natural habitat (in the past we have watched this process in a plastic container). We are so excited to start this project! \r\n Again, thank you, your generosity has sparked a new outlook on learning and discovery in our kindergarten classroom. When they can have fun with their learning, it's a win win! We used the wiggle eyes on our jellyfish crafts after reading ocean themed books. The crayons have been used in a variety of crafts (like the puffer fish one from our ocean week), as well as several reading and math practice activities that involve color. Lastly, our sentence strips will be used tomorrow to help make crowns for our ABC Countdown day letter Qq, since we have some Queens and Kings in the room. The generosity we received during this project was amazing! \r\n\r\nWe received our incubator and our students were so thrilled. We were able to get more eggs from a local farmer and decided to hatch a second round of chicks. My students were so excited when I shared that some of our donations came from people who we knew and some of our donations came from anonymous donors. They could not believe that someone who doesn't even know us, wanted to help us! What a great lesson to learn about generosity! \r\n\r\nOur new incubator was an upgrade from the one we had, it holds more eggs and my students noticed that right away! The were excited that we had the opportunity to hatch more eggs. We checked our eggs daily, watched, and waited for the eggs to hatch. We were excited that all but two eggs hatched and we got the opportunity to take care of some chicks again. \r\n\r\nThis project is going to allow us to share this experience and hands on learning for years to come. This project was for all of the 2nd graders at our school. When the boxes started rolling in, the students were so excited to see what was inside of them. The first order of business was Mother's Day surprises!\r\nStudents loved being creative and making special things for their mothers to enjoy! Next on the list was planting. Some students chose flowers where others were more inclined to choose vegetables. No matter which direction students leaned towards they were excited to actually plant seeds and watch them start to grow. We have talked a lot this spring about the cycle of a plant and how it starts as a seed, so the clear cups were an important part of this lesson for students to be able to view the roots when they start to form.
