Because our students have special needs, we saw this as a wonderful opportunity for them to grow as learners and take on the role of teachers. Each student chose a book from our new collection to read and share. They also took the lead in deciding how to use the craft supplies during the teaching sessions with young peers. \r\n\r\nThe students had a blast using the bags and fabric markers to create custom tote bags, decorating them with their favorite parts of the stories. Others chose to paint rocks using the wildlife kit to show what they learned about animals, while students reading about space decorated themed wooden pieces and bookmarks. There was something to inspire every child! \r\n\r\nThis project was an amazing way to engage students with reading disabilities and encourage them to read aloud to others. Helping younger students pick out and complete matching crafts boosted their self-esteem and gave them immense confidence in their abilities.
