Before this project was fully funded, my students were struggling to connect with the books they had access to in school, and my teacher colleagues were so discouraged about how to engage students with reading while still being conscientious of their difficult circumstances.\r\n\r\nAs soon as the kids learned which new books had become available, the kids started pouring into the library and the books started flying off the shelves! In the past few weeks, I've seen students who had never read a book cover-to-cover for school fly through 20+ volumes of a manga series in 1-2 weeks. The best part was when the kids came back for other recommendations once they finished a manga series.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for making such a huge difference in my students' lives. White boards are easily overlooked upon entering a room, until you need one at a different height or place to meet your accommodation needs while studying for your next test. A display TV in the library means students will now get to stay connected to school announcements even while studying and collaborating, creating a more inclusive environment throughout the school. It improves reading comprehension 76% by providing context, helping young people decode words and comprehend challenging text, making it possible for students to listen to and comprehend two grade levels above their reading level! 85% of what we learn, we learn by listening, and for most students, listening is the dominant learning medium -- something that is fundamental to grasping all other language arts: reading, writing, and speaking.\r\n\r\nThe stats are all in our favor as educators, and because of your generosity, I can now start the work of demonstrating these statistics in action!
