We were able to get a class set of MIDI controller keyboards for our music students to use with chrome books. These controllers allow for students to do hands on theory learning, as well as music technology projects in the classroom. In the music theory classes, students in all grades will be composing music using the keyboards and the fundamentals they have learned. Hopefully this will inspire some to pursue careers as composers!\r\n\r\nStudents were so excited when they were delivered and couldn't wait to begin using them. To start out we showed them how to use them properly and then let them explore the different things they could do with them. Seeing the spark of wonder in their eyes made it so amazing! We can't wait until we start actually composing using them!\r\n\r\nWithout your contribution, our school would not have been able to afford these materials. With you funds, we were able to purchase replacement equipment for our percussion section, something that would not have been possible with your contribution. \r\n\r\nOur snare drums were worn out and broken (lugs were snapped, not sounding the greatest etc). With your support we were able to secure two new snare drums that sound amazing. We also were able to get some new mallets for our marimba and xylophone. Middle school students are still learning how to use mallet percussion with finese and sometimes they hit the bars a little too hard and wear out the mallets quickly. \r\n\r\nStudents were super excited to see the new equipment and couldn't wait to start using them. Without your help, this project would never have been possible. I don't always use it during class, but at times, it has been very useful. It's helps out when students are entering the room because I do not need to raise my voice. I can calmly explain or remind them what they need to be doing. \r\n\r\nThey really like using the microphone when reading or answering questions in the classroom. A lot of these strategies include tools that many of us take for granted having access to - highlighters, sticky notes, multiple color pens, index cards. While I include these supplies on the list of necessary materials every year in my syllabus, the students do not bring these materials with them. \r\n\r\nWith the donation of highlighters, I was able to give students who needed them a new highlighter. They use these highlighters to make annotations in the texts that they read. They then use pencils to write notes next to the text they highlighted. Students will work together on their homework and trade highlighters to code their annotations. Yellow marks mean that they found important ideas. Blue marks mean new words with definitions in the margins or on a sticky note. \r\n\r\nIt takes a village to stay sanitary and clean during allergy season, and then flu and cold season and then (somehow?) it's allergy season again. The donation of tissues was spread around to several classrooms. Clean noses for everyone!
