My classes just finished our Frankenstein unit and were able to use the books to engage with the content and prepare for the AP exam in May in a variety of ways.\r\n\r\nThe students used the books to do most of their reading on their own and then to reference the text during discussions in class. For this unit we did group shares, concentric circles, mini debates, and home/expert groups to discuss the text in a variety of ways and keep everyone accountable for the reading. They also used the books throughout the unit to find specific quotes and analyze how those smaller pieces of the text contribute to the meaning of the work as a whole. As our unit drew to a close, the students went back into the books to make an Apples to Apples style review game, create a One Pager of the novel to use as a study guide, and to write their summative essay, a timed write in class to help prepare them for one of the essays they'll be asked to write for the AP exam. They were in those books every day of class and the unit would not have been possible without this resource!\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support and your willingness to bring these books to my students.","fullyFundedDate":1755482965360,"projectUrl":"project/what-do-you-mean-his-name-isnt-frank/9607145/","projectTitle":"What Do You mean... This donation has had a profound and immediate impact on our learning environment.\r\n\r\nIn today's digital world, one of the biggest challenges we face is student distraction from personal devices. Before receiving these calculators, I often struggled to keep students focused during class. The constant temptation to use their phones for social media or other non-academic purposes was a significant barrier to their learning.\r\n\r\nThe new calculators have changed everything. With a reliable, dedicated tool for each student, they no longer have a reason to pull out their phones. This has created an atmosphere of focused, heads-down work. I have seen a remarkable increase in student engagement and their ability to stay on task. They are more confident in tackling complex problems and are actively participating in class discussions.\r\n\r\nThis simple act of providing the right tools has not only improved their academic performance but has also helped them develop better study habits. Thank you for your generosity and for making such a positive difference in the daily lives of over 30 students.","fullyFundedDate":1749343622098,"projectUrl":"project/math-readiness/9389937/","projectTitle":"Math Readiness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10048005_orig.jpg?crop=624,624,x120,y100&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754443850249","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/berenguer"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_25033","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1698,"numTeachers":95,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":25,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":72,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.3,"schoolId":25033,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Arroyo High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Arroyo High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/el-monte-union-high-school-district/arroyo-high-school/25033"}
