{"monthlySchoolDonationEnabled":true,"callToActionDisplayName":"Arlington Elementary School","outOfStateSupporters":35.7,"allowSchoolLevelGiving":true,"hasFundedProjects":true,"projectGratitudeData":[{"teacherId":9379859,"projectId":10328702,"letterContent":"This project has brought so much joy, organization, imagination, and just a little bit of happy kindergarten chaos into our classroom!\r\n\r\nWhen I first created this project, my biggest goal was to get shelving for our classroom because we did not have built-in counters, cabinets, or much storage space at all. In kindergarten, that is a little like trying to organize a toy store without any shelves. We have books, manipulatives, art supplies, games, blocks, dramatic play materials, and approximately one million tiny things that somehow all need a home!\r\n\r\nThankfully, a set of shelves became available for our classroom, which meant I was able to use the remaining DonorsChoose funds to add even more fun learning materials for my students. I purchased Lincoln Logs, stacking blocks, a kitchen set, and forest animals, and to say my students were excited would be an understatement.\r\n\r\nThe first time they saw the new materials, their faces completely lit up. There were lots of \"Can we play with that?!\" questions, big smiles, and very serious kindergarten negotiations about who was going to use what first. They could not wait to explore everything, and these materials have quickly become some of the most popular choices in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe Lincoln Logs and stacking blocks have turned my students into tiny architects and engineers. They build houses, towers, roads, cabins, and structures that are sometimes extremely impressive and sometimes collapse approximately four seconds after completion. Either way, they are so proud of what they create, and I love watching them work together, solve problems, and encourage one another to try again when something does not go as planned.\r\n\r\nThe kitchen set has also been a huge favorite. Apparently, I now teach in a classroom that also operates several restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and family kitchens throughout the day. My students love pretending to cook, take orders, serve food, and invite their friends to \"eat.\" The conversations that happen during this play are so sweet and funny, and they are practicing so many important skills without even realizing it. They are learning to share, take turns, communicate, listen to one another, and work through little disagreements.\r\n\r\nThe forest animals have brought even more imagination into our play. My students build homes for them, create forests, make up stories, and combine them with the Lincoln Logs and blocks. Some days the animals live peacefully in the woods. Other days, they apparently need a school, a restaurant, a giant tower, and a full neighborhood. Kindergarten imaginations truly have no limits!\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite parts of this project, though, is finally having a place for everything. Before the shelving, keeping our materials organized was a challenge. Now my students are learning exactly where things belong, how to take care of our classroom, and how to clean up independently. It may sound simple, but having organized spaces makes such a huge difference in how smoothly our day runs.\r\n\r\nThese resources are also helping my students grow in so many ways. During choice time, they are building creativity, fine motor skills, problem-solving skills, communication, cooperation, and independence. They are learning how to join a group, share an idea, take turns, solve a problem, and be a good classroom friend. The best part is that to them, it just feels like play.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using these materials during choice time and throughout our learning. I am excited to watch their creations become even more detailed and to hear the stories they come up with as they become more confident, creative, and independent throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nI am so incredibly thankful to every donor who helped make this project possible. Because of you, my youngest and smallest learners now have the opportunity to experience success in basketball in a way that truly meets their needs.\r\n\r\nWe are using the adjustable basketball hoops daily during our March Madness lessons. One of the most special moments was watching my younger or smaller students who typically struggle with shooting finally make their first basket. Due to the smaller size of the hoops students are able to focus on proper form, confidence, and enjoyment rather than frustration. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new hoops, their faces lit up with excitement. They noticed that we had new equipment and many immediately noticed that the baskets were \"just right\" for them. Instead of feeling discouraged by hoops that were too high, they were eager to try, celebrate their successes, and keep practicing. The joy and confidence this created, especially for our youngest learners, made me so happy! \r\n\r\n\r\nYour support has made a meaningful and lasting impact on our classroom. These new materials have allowed every student to be actively involved during lessons instead of waiting for a turn or sharing limited equipment. With enough balls for small-group and partner activities, students are able to practice skills more often, build confidence, and stay engaged throughout the entire class period.\r\n\r\nThe foam balls have been especially helpful because we use them for the students favorite games; Protect the Pin and Monster Ball! We were running low and the game was not as exciting! When the students walked into the gym and saw so many foam balls laying there ready for them, they were ecstatic! Foam balls also allow for safe play. Whether we are working on throwing, catching, kicking, or teamwork activities, the equipment allows students to focus on learning and having fun without worrying about getting hurt.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students now have more opportunities to move, collaborate, and develop important physical and social skills. The added equipment has transformed our lessons into more active, inclusive experiences where every student can practice, improve, and feel successful. The students got to shoot around and dribble and they are looking forward to starting our basketball unit with a class set of new, colorful basketballs. \r\n\r\nOnce we begin the unit, students will continue building fundamental basketball skills while applying them in small-sided games that promote teamwork, decision-making, and sportsmanship.
