Your purchase of a bass tubano drum and three guiros is enabling more students to have their hands on instruments in participatory, whole body music making and community collaboration. These quality instruments are expensive to purchase, but are constructed to last for generations of students to play. We are very grateful to you for anonymous support of the cultural study, collaborative play, and ensemble music making for our 1st through 6th grade students.\r\n\r\nAPM students have a great tradition of drumming in music classes. Not every student comes to elementary music classes ready to sing, but every student does enjoy the palpable, full-body vibration of playing a drum in music class. Over the years, we have explored percussion grooves from Latino and African traditions and used them as vehicles for the deep, powerful listening and feeling of community that is developed when making music with a large group of people. We often borrow instruments from other schools in order to allow all students to have their hands on an instrument at the same time. Your support is helping us to grow our classroom collection of world percussion instruments for APM to play at any time of year. \r\n\r\nThis year the instruments you have purchased are being used to learn a complex 2-beat pattern common in Latin America that includes an ensemble of claves, maracas, guiro, and low and high pitched drums. Ultimately, this groove will be explored slowly over the course of the year by students in grades 4-6, and then all students in grades K-6 will present songs and dance from Latin America in our spring all-school concert while accompanied by our upper elementary drumming ensemble. These instruments will be played all year and for many years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1778606776451,"projectUrl":"project/world-drumming-at-apm/10205405/","projectTitle":"World Drumming at APM","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Albright","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10481518"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_31272","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":145,"numTeachers":6,"percentFrplEligible":24,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":81,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":8,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"24.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":31272,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Appleton Public Montessori School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Appleton Public Montessori School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/appleton-area-school-district/appleton-public-montessori-school/31272"}
