Every day, they would walk into class and ask to read the book. Even when they saw me at recess, they showed excitement for reading the \"Wild Robot\" by asking, \"Are we reading the Wild Robot today?\". Some even went as far to draw pictures and incorporate the characters into their own personal creativity. I am extremely satisfied and grateful that I was able to bring in such a book that teaches themes of kindness, acceptance, change, and community to my student. It also was especially meaningful to teach them through real-time characterization. As a teacher, it was more meaningful for the students to learn about comprehension skills such as conflict and solutions using scenes and characters we read together. At the end of our novel study, we completed a character-focused project where students got to choose one character from the novel and focus on their traits, problems, and character growth. It was amazing to see the variety of characters students chose because they really felt a strong gravitation towards so many characters, not just the main character. I also appreciated how it challenged so many students in reading, growing their vocabulary and making predictions. It showed me that when you challenge students and hold them to high levels of expectations in learning, they can really engage meaningfully. Even far past the end of the novel study, I even had a couple students request to read the book independently. I loved that it has challenged students to read books that they normally wouldn't either. Truly, thank you for your contribution. My students truly appreciated it, as much as I did. Reading has never been more fun! We will be continuing to use the book in the upcoming school year as well.","fullyFundedDate":1764702171000,"projectUrl":"project/spark-the-joy-for-reading/9662079/","projectTitle":"Spark the Joy for Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Xiong","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7928142"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_32730","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":758,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":44,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":2,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"25.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.0,"schoolId":32730,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Anna Kirchgater Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Anna Kirchgater Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/elk-grove-unified-school-district/anna-kirchgater-elementary-school/32730"}
