They were so excited to unwrap them on our first inclement weather day when we couldn't practice outdoors. Students said they hadn't jumped rope since elementary school - it was a gleeful moment of nostalgia for them. They picked their favorite color and were using them before we even started our actual workout for practice. \r\n\r\nWe share a building with our partner high school, and high schoolers often come after school to visit. On this particular day, seeing us break out the jump ropes, they wanted to join in too :-) So our team grew in size that day as current and former students alike made use of the jump ropes.\r\n\r\nThanks again for this essential fitness item as well as for bringing joy to the kids.","fullyFundedDate":1757289613005,"projectUrl":"project/help-middle-school-marathoners-reach-the/9670143/","projectTitle":"Help Middle School Marathoners Reach Their Goals with Speed Ropes","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Finer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp39554_orig.jpg?crop=1003,1003,x460,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735578265081","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/finer"},{"teacherId":39554,"projectId":9608859,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for making it possible to add this resource to my classroom. \r\n\r\nThe spinning bookshelf is a beautiful addition to the room. As soon as it was assembled (my twin brother helped with that!), kids kept commenting on it and wanted to spin it and check out all the books on it. With the spinner right next to my couch and beanbag chair, it has helped create a desirable place for students to read. \r\n\r\nIn addition, the spinning bookshelf has greatly expanded the capacity for my classroom library within my limited space. It's allowed for me to put out more books and better curate collections to engage students in current units in English class, topics in their history or science classes, or cultural heritage months discussed in advisory. \r\n\r\nThanks again.","fullyFundedDate":1755729808211,"projectUrl":"project/spinning-books-for-all/9608859/","projectTitle":"Spinning Books for All","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Finer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp39554_orig.jpg?crop=1003,1003,x460,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735578265081","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/finer"},{"teacherId":8852616,"projectId":9094491,"letterContent":"My advisory students are loviiiiiing the handbells! I paired up the handbells with our Wayfinder, our SEL curriculum, and the kids now look forward to Wayfinder days. We have selected our favorite songs to play, and the kids get better every single time. The laughter, joy, and community that this activity brings are irreplaceable. \r\n\r\nThe students were skeptical of the bells the first time. When they learned how easy it was and how they needed each other to play a song, they began to change their minds. Honestly, they ask to play more, and it is hard to say no.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to memorize songs so that we don't need a video to play. This requires communication and trust with each other. We want to play for other advisory classes so that other classes can invest in the handbells. Our goal is for all advisories to engage with musical activities as it promotes community building.","fullyFundedDate":1740107351091,"projectUrl":"project/handbells-for-7th-grade-advisory/9094491/","projectTitle":"Handbells for 7th grade advisory!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mendez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8852616_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1673307735645","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8852616"},{"teacherId":39554,"projectId":9022704,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity in funding this project. What your gift has done goes beyond simply providing books for students to read on such an important topic - it is having a multiplier effect in helping to change the academic culture of our school. \r\n\r\nAt its simplest, your gift (when combined with additional book sets from the USHMM) made learning about the Holocaust accessible to every student in the eighth grade. Stacks of diverse, colorful, high interest books were displayed in the rooms of every teacher with a core eighth grade English class. Students checked them out and expanded their interest and knowledge about the Holocaust and genocide. \r\n\r\nTo multiply the impact, the English teachers, along with our ethnic studies teacher, planned a field to the Museum of Tolerance (Anne Frank exhibit) and the Wende Museum (exhibition on spying and surveillance). Students earned their way onto this trip by demonstrating they had read one of the gifted Holocaust books. Thus, students learned more about the Holocaust ...which got them even more excited to go on a trip to learn more about the Holocaust.\r\n\r\nWhat eventually took hold was that students formed informal book clubs, as they talked about the books in the halls and across classes and would even race to my room to see if the particular books they were hearing about were available.\r\n\r\nThis is the first time we have tried out this approach (earning an academic field trip by reading supplemental texts) in building a more academic culture in our school. Its success is now spurring other teachers to follow our model.\r\n\r\nIn addition, I've shared our approach (including book lists) across the network of educators in the California Collaborative for Holocaust and Genocide Education, and other teachers have expressed plans to adapt it in their own schools.\r\n\r\nAnd now, with eighth graders having returned most of the books they checked out, they are available for students in my sixth grade reading class. And a half-dozen students have already chosen books from the set for their reading ... continuing a virtuous cycle that you, in donating the seed book sets, helped set in motion.\r\n\r\nThank you, once again, for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1735696686113,"projectUrl":"project/graphic-novels-to-tackle-a-challenging-t/9022704/","projectTitle":"Graphic Novels to Tackle a Challenging Topic: the Holocaust","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Finer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp39554_orig.jpg?crop=1003,1003,x460,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735578265081","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/finer"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_99040","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":454,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":95,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.4,"schoolId":99040,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Animo Jefferson Charter Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Animo Jefferson Charter Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/animo-jefferson/99040"}
