Because of your generosity, students had so many new opportunities! A work team of future engineers worked diligently and collaboratively to help build the bike! They were so proud and did frequent maintenance checks to ensure it was in tip-top shape! Our cyclists have ridden near and far while reading, working on a Chromebook assignment, or just having a little downtime. They learn about new towns, states, and lakes around Rochester as they log their miles. This is broadening their scope and piquing their interest! Some students had never been on a bike before and, although hesitant, found real accomplishment in making those pedals go faster and faster as their confidence grew! Please know this bike will always help us get through these long winter months when physical activity is more challenging! \r\nThank you for believing in the joy of learning and bringing smiles to Andrew Langston Middle School!","fullyFundedDate":1735413973814,"projectUrl":"project/read-and-ride-rochester/8990008/","projectTitle":"Read and Ride, Rochester!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9307854_orig.jpg?crop=1486,1486,x0,y49&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733342891778","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9307854"},{"teacherId":9745108,"projectId":8770648,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our creative arts and literacy initiatives! Your donation has opened doors for our students to engage with books in exciting and innovative ways, blending creativity with storytelling. Through our hands-on art projects, students are learning more than just art techniques—they are also developing important skills in critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving. Each activity encourages them to connect what they read with what they create, helping them to deepen their understanding of the texts and express their personal interpretations. For instance, while making a collage based on a favorite book or character, students learn to analyze themes, symbols, and character development, which are essential reading comprehension skills. \r\nReading in my classroom is an active, dynamic experience. It's not just about sitting with a book—it's about engaging with the content through multiple senses. Students discuss characters, themes, and settings before diving into art projects that bring these elements to life. I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable making connections between their personal experiences and the literature they explore, and where they can share their ideas with one another. Whether they're crafting a storybook, designing character dolls, or illustrating quotes, students are encouraged to think critically, collaborate, and develop their own unique voices as both readers and creators.\r\nI've especially seen a boost in engagement from students who may not have previously connected with reading. For example, a student who typically struggles with traditional reading assignments has found newfound joy in creating comic strips based on the stories we read. Another student, who is more visually inclined, has excelled in projects like the book-inspired collage art, which allows her to interpret the text through her own artistic lens. These hands-on projects have given students a way to access and enjoy the material that goes beyond the written word, making reading a more personal and enjoyable experience for them.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this learning experience possible. Your donation has helped foster a love for reading and creativity that will benefit these students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1726693270056,"projectUrl":"project/middle-schoolers-today-literate-leaders/8770648/","projectTitle":"Middle Schoolers Today, Literate Leaders Tomorrow!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Flansburg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9745108_orig.jpg?crop=1920,1920,x0,y595&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726163683056","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9745108"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_133489","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":311,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":37,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":93.8,"schoolId":133489,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Andrew Langston Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Andrew Langston Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/rochester-city-school-district/andrew-langston-middle-school/133489"}
