For Hispanic Heritage month, we learned about Amate paintings on mulberry paper. We used oil pastels and the brown kraft paper to create our own interpretations of Amate paintings. PreK has used the hammers to create 'Splat Monsters'. We soaked cotton balls in tempera paint and then hit the cotton balls with our hammers. When our paintings dried, we added details to make monsters. The kids are enjoying the 3D magnetic cubes so much. They have quickly become one of their favorite centers. Fifth grade is going to start a sculpture unit and the cubes have made explaining and demonstrating 3D very accessible and understandable to kids.\r\n The caddy and storage baskets have been a great way to organize all of our skin tone drawing supplies. I want to ensure that all of my students feel accepted and represented. It has been such an incredible time saver. In the few short weeks I have had it, we have already completed several projects. Fifth grade created glow in the dark radial relief sculptures using 2\"x2\" squares of paper. It literally took thousands of squares to make that project happen. I honestly don't think I would have tackled that project without the paper cutter. Third grade created glow in the dark paper quilts inspired by the Gee's Bend quilters. These also used a lot of cut shapes to create. Lastly, 1st through 3rd grade created All About Me paper sculptures using strips of construction paper. Thanks to you, the prep time was cut dramatically and the cuts were much more accurate. The neon glow bracelets were funded with beads purchased by you. The art was hung with the stapler provided by DonorsChoose. I have already hung the maps as well. Ms. Soap and I also got a chance to sit down and spend time with our students in an environment that was not academically focused to build a stronger bond with them. It was a great way to unwind from a fantastic but rigorous testing season. The students raved about the party the rest of the week. They're already asking to do it again next year!
