What makes these books especially valuable is that they are easy-to-read versions of Shakespeare, making his stories and language much more accessible to my students. Teaching at an alternative school, I work with students who have a wide range of reading abilities, and many have struggled with reading or have had negative experiences with literature in the past. Shakespeare can be intimidating even for strong readers, so having versions that simplify the language without losing the heart of the stories allows my students to focus on understanding and appreciating the plays rather than becoming frustrated by unfamiliar words and expressions.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an interactive experience. We read aloud, take on character roles, discuss important scenes, and connect the characters' experiences to situations students can relate to in their own lives. Through these plays, students explore themes such as loyalty, betrayal, ambition, love, and the consequences of our choices. They also practice important literacy skills, including analyzing character motivations, identifying themes, making inferences, and supporting their interpretations with evidence. The easier-to-understand language helps students participate more confidently in discussions and discover that Shakespeare's stories are still relevant today.\r\n\r\nOne of my biggest goals as a teacher is to help students who may not see themselves as successful readers realize that they are capable of understanding and enjoying challenging literature. These books help remove some of the barriers that might otherwise prevent them from experiencing Shakespeare. Instead of feeling defeated before they even begin, students have the opportunity to engage with the stories, build their confidence, and develop a greater appreciation for literature. Thank you for giving my students that opportunity and for supporting a classroom where every student deserves the chance to succeed!","fullyFundedDate":1776953958103,"projectUrl":"project/shakespeare-for-everyone/10079984/","projectTitle":"Shakespeare for Everyone","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kitchen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10167117"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_24953","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":135,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":42,"percentWhite":50,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"US Census Data for the surrounding geographic area","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"Census ZCTA","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":24953,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Renaissance Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Renaissance Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/anderson-county-office-of-education/anderson-co-alternative-school/24953"}
