Together, they provide rich, age-appropriate opportunities to build the background knowledge emphasized in a classical education. \r\n\r\nBooks such as *Ancient Greece for Kids*, *Ancient China for Kids*, *The Oregon Trail*, *Going West*, *What Was Ellis Island?*, *The Star-Spangled Banner*, *Our Flag Was Still There*, *Monument Maker*, *Martin Luther King Jr.*, *Who Was Clara Barton?*, *Sequoyah and the Written Word*, and *The Drinking Gourd* will allow students to encounter important people, places, events, ideas, and traditions from American and world history. Rather than learning history as isolated facts, students can use these stories and primary-source-like illustrations to develop a chronological framework and make connections among civilizations, exploration, immigration, citizenship, national symbols, and the people who helped shape our nation.\r\n\r\nThe collection also adds meaningful support for science and the study of the natural world. *The Honeybee*, *The Honeybee's Life and Times*, and *The Buffalo Back* provide opportunities to observe animal life cycles, habitats, adaptations, and the relationship between living things and their environments. Titles such as *Ancient Greece for Kids* and *Ancient China for Kids* also connect naturally to geography and the study of how people interact with the physical world around them. This kind of rich, content-based reading fits beautifully with the classical model used at American Classical Academy Rutherford: students encounter a wide body of knowledge through literature and nonfiction, build vocabulary and cultural literacy, ask questions, discuss what they have learned, and gradually develop the knowledge needed for deeper thinking.\r\n\r\n**Thank you so much to the generous donors who made this project possible!** These books will do far more than fill our shelves—they will give our students additional opportunities to explore history, science, geography, and the world around them through engaging, memorable texts. Your generosity is helping us build a classroom library that supports the knowledge-rich, classical education our students are receiving and will continue to spark curiosity and a love of learning for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1778262028962,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-2nd-grade-wonder-with-math-sci/10094204/","projectTitle":"Fueling 2nd Grade Wonder with Math & Science Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moody","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10098507_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753791769854","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10098507"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_133588","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":150,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":15,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":17,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":24,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":133588,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about American Classical Academy Rutherford on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"American Classical Academy Rutherford","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/rutherford-county-school-district/american-classical-academy-rutherford/133588"}
