Reading plays a large role in my classroom, everyday we read about 20+ pages with the audiobook playing overhead and then discuss about the important themes or other things that stuck out to us. A lot of the students have found this book to be interesting especially because it was written so long ago but ties into our present reality. You stepped in when we were desperate to find funds to start a project that students can get excited about and learn from the experience.\r\nNaturally, when the project first began, students were not enthusiastic about it. They thought it would be boring and taking time away from their playtime. But after some weeks and a lot of incentives such as no homework, extra play time on the field and on the computer, as well as special treats they started to look forward to be out of the classroom and willing to partake in the whole process. Often they would ask if it's \"watering day.\" They willingly helped to carry water, tilled the soil, picked the weeds, and got so excited each time a particular seed sprouted.\r\nOne student got so interested in the project that he adopted the same idea for his IB presentation (ASGL is an IB school). This student wanted to based his presentation on encouraging his neighbors from the same apartment block to eat healthy and fresh vegetables by starting a community garden. They were grateful he did.","fullyFundedDate":1727300183063,"projectUrl":"project/vegetables-are-delicious/8749811/","projectTitle":"Vegetables Are Delicious","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kurose","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9707802"},{"teacherId":7832446,"projectId":8990718,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, the addition of bean bag chairs has transformed our classroom into a more comfortable and engaging space. The bean bags have become a go-to spot for providing a relaxed atmosphere that encourages collaboration and creativity.\r\n\r\nCurrently, students have found that being able to sit in a comfortable space has boosted their focus and confidence. Moving forward, we plan to use the bean bags for peer review workshops and poetry readings, creating a casual, welcoming environment where students feel more comfortable sharing their work. Several students saw me receive the boxes and boxes of materials and a small group helped me to unload and organize all the products into the drawers, taking a couple of items that they needed. They spread the word to their friends and very quickly the students came to ask for the \"cool\" supplies, like pimple patches, hair ties, and chapsticks. It was fun to see the excitement.\r\nHowever, the impact was the greatest for the students who came to me quietly and when no one else was around. These students were the shy students who needed the most basic of hygiene products (like deodorant, toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene products) and were embarrassed to ask in front of others. I was able to give them any of the things that they needed and the relief and happiness was palpable. Students asked for products for brothers and sisters, moms and dads, and I was able to help them provide basic, much needed supplies for families. All because of you. All because you were kind enough to care about my students and their families, to help them feel \"normal\" and cared for. I cannot express the depth of our gratitude. Thank you so much for caring and helping.","fullyFundedDate":1730396743222,"projectUrl":"project/healthy-hygiene-for-happy-successful-st/8801290/","projectTitle":"Healthy Hygiene for Happy, Successful Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. MacNeil","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1329546"},{"teacherId":9731629,"projectId":8741930,"letterContent":"The items donated to us has been very helpful in helping students manage their emotional state of minds. As an out of classroom support staff, I have multiple meetings with students throughout the day and when they come to my office, the first thing they do without being prompted is to reach out for a fidget item set on my desk. I can see in real time how their state of mind changes every single time. It has allowed me to be able to have more productive conversations with students and get them to reflect on their choices, which allows them to grow. \r\n\r\nWhen students first, saw the donated items, they asked what were they and for what. After explaining to them that it was for all students at our school to use responsibly, they began to come into my office and borrow them to have in class. The expectation is that it should be used to help them concentrate and not distract. Students have been very responsible with using it as a tool that helps them focus in class. \r\n\r\nThe main objective moving forward is helping students (mostly HS students) manage their state of mind when frustrated. I hope to work with students who easily get frustrated and find ways to manage their emotions in a healthier way.","fullyFundedDate":1726073812241,"projectUrl":"project/for-a-more-emotionally-intelligent-futur/8741930/","projectTitle":"For a More Emotionally Intelligent Future","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9731629"},{"teacherId":1329546,"projectId":8734743,"letterContent":"My students greatly benefitted from the snacks and fidget toys that you so kindly donated to my school. When the snacks and fidgets arrived, I was able to organize them in a special closet where the students could see the wide variety of deliciousness available to them for their choosing. \r\n\r\nThe first day, I had a small group of male students come by my classroom to check-in and share some things that were going on in their lives. I asked them if they wanted a snack, opened the closet, and their eyes went wide. Huge grins spread over their faces and they were excited to choose the snack they wanted. They were able to sit and eat their snack while sharing their concerns, fears, and feelings. In the quiet classroom, with a snack for hungry bellies, the students felt safe and cared for, which can be rare in this community.\r\n\r\nAfter that day, students come in when they want a snack and a break or a breather from a difficult situation during the school day. They are able to talk about their decisions and their futures while feeling special and cared for with a snack or with a toy that they can focus on while sharing difficult feelings. I can't thank you enough for providing my students with this time and care. My students and I greatly appreciate it and we have already begun to see the benefits of having an in-classroom library. A few of my students also especially appreciated the diverse titles and felt that their identities were cherished.
