Many of the students had never been able to touch a sewing machine let alone sew on one. They were so excited.\r\n\r\nWe have used the new machines to sew several projects: ramen noodle bowl holders, and two types of fabric bags/purses. It has been awesome seeing their faces as they gain mastery on the machine. They learned persistence, problem-solving, and patience.\r\n\r\nEach year in Art, I work to provide a variety of opportunities for the students to grow and explore different types of art. We start with the basics, drawing, painting, sculpting, and then on to fabric arts. The fabric arts unit starts with learning about weaving techniques, hand stitching, and on to machine sewing. \r\n\r\nI feel it is important to include how art and especially fabric arts can give opportunities for entrepreneurship. We worked out a simple cost analysis for each project and several students are interested in furthering their business plan next school year. Some of the students noted that they often see how-to videos of sewing on social media and are interested in working with our podcast teacher to create their own videos.\r\n\r\nMy personal plan for the machines is to use them each year with the art classes and to continue connecting the arts to economic opportunities.\r\n\r\nAgain, we thank you so very much for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1769177391524,"projectUrl":"project/sewing-our-futures/10031262/","projectTitle":"Sewing Our Futures","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Willis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7091633"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_110463","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":250,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":52,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":4,"percentMultiracialImputed":13,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":65.0,"schoolId":110463,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Allps School of Innovation on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Allps School of Innovation","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/fayetteville-public-schools/allps-school-of-innovation/110463"}
