Rather than printing pre-made files, my students modeled and created their own original 3D projects from scratch. They worked through the entire engineering design process—sketching their initial ideas, translating them into 3D software, and refining their models to ensure structural stability. Having a steady supply of filament meant they could test their own prototypes, catch design flaws, and re-engineer their models without fear of running out of materials.\r\n\r\nWhat excites the students most is the magical moment when a project they built entirely from their own imagination materializes right off the print bed. This hands-on process has been particularly transformative for students who typically struggle with abstract concepts or standard paper-and-pencil assignments. For instance, a few students who are often soft-spoken during traditional lectures threw themselves completely into designing complex, multi-part creations. Seeing their own unique ideas take physical shape gave them an immediate boost in pride, turning them into classroom leaders who eagerly helped their peers troubleshoot and perfect their own 3D models.\r\n\r\nYour support did far more than supply raw materials—it empowered my students to see themselves as real creators, engineers, and problem-solvers. Thank you for giving them the resources to take an original idea from a blank screen to a finished print, building skills and confidence that will stay with them for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1778608553442,"projectUrl":"project/pla-for-3d-printing/10258571/","projectTitle":"PLA for 3d Printing","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kim","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7278497_orig.jpg?crop=4569,4569,x1795,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1777914449802","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/paulkim1"},{"teacherId":6763279,"projectId":9794320,"letterContent":"I've been working on a devised creative writing unit for the last two years. The little books are so helpful, and the students write their stories on their computer, and then they are formatted to the size of the books, and students paste the story directly into the books. They design covers for their books and add titles and their names as authors. They then add a dedication page and write a summary on the back cover. On the inside of the back cover, they write and about the author page. The finished book looks like a real book, and the students are thrilled when they feel published!\r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled as they worked together in small groups to write stories with one shared secondary character and a shared symbolic object. As a teacher, I am thrilled when I see my students working together on the floor, brainstorming, writing on large poster paper, and mapping out their stories. The books helped tie the whole project together!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for letting us have the books for the final project.","fullyFundedDate":1769192036486,"projectUrl":"project/why-stories-matter/9794320/","projectTitle":"Why Stories Matter?","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kat","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6763279"},{"teacherId":7278497,"projectId":9623440,"letterContent":"I want to sincerely thank you for your thoughtful donations to our classroom. Your support is already making a real difference in how students learn and engage with the material every day. These resources have helped turn regular lessons into more hands-on, meaningful experiences that students are excited to be part of.\r\n\r\nThe playing cards you provided have been a great addition to our math activities. They've helped students practice skills like arithmetic, probability, and problem-solving in a more interactive and enjoyable way. Instead of only working on paper, students are now learning through games and group activities, which has increased participation and confidence, especially for those who usually feel unsure about math.\r\n\r\nThe SSD has also been extremely helpful for managing student projects. It allows students to quickly save, transfer, and access their 3D design work without delays or technical issues. This keeps them focused on learning and creating rather than dealing with storage problems, and it gives them a stronger sense of ownership over their work.\r\n\r\nThe computer mice have made a noticeable difference in our 3D modeling work as well. They give students much better control and precision when working in design software, making it easier for them to build and refine their projects. This small improvement has had a big impact on their confidence and ability to bring their ideas to life.\r\n\r\nOverall, your donations have helped create a smoother, more engaging, and more supportive learning environment. Thank you again for your generosity and for investing in our students' learning and success.","fullyFundedDate":1757683191833,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-tools-to-bring-math-and-science/9623440/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Tools to Bring Math and Science to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kim","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7278497_orig.jpg?crop=4569,4569,x1795,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1777914449802","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/paulkim1"},{"teacherId":1154283,"projectId":10063297,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my students are now able to actively engage with the texts we read in class. Using the highlighters you helped provide, students annotated as we read together and learned to identify key details and textual evidence. For example, when we read \"The Lady or the Tiger?\" by Frank Stockton, students highlighted important moments in the story that helped them form their own interpretations. They then used this evidence to write an argument essay explaining whether the princess led her lover to the tiger or the lady. This process helped students slow down, think more carefully about the text, and support their ideas with evidence.\r\n When the students first saw the new highlighters, they were excited to use them to mark important details in the text, and many students were eager to share what they highlighted and explain why they thought those marts of the text were important. The materials made reading more interactive and encouraged students to participate more actively during lessons. \r\n Moving forward, students will continue using the highlighters to gather evidence from texts and strengthen their writing. Their annotations will help them respond to prompts, develop stronger explanations, and support their ideas with specific examples from what they read. Because of your donation, we now have an Apple Pencil that has transformed the way my students and I use our iPad for learning.\r\n\r\nMany of our donors may not realize how powerful this tool is in the classroom. With the Apple Pencil, I can model math and science problems directly on our Promethean board while moving around the room, keeping students engaged and giving them immediate support. It has also allowed students to show their thinking in ways that are more natural and interactive than typing or tapping. For example, when working through multi-step math problems, students can draw, annotate, and correct their work with precision, which helps them see their growth and understanding more clearly.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students is how much more creative they can be. They love using the Apple Pencil to sketch models, highlight key ideas in text, and make diagrams that show their problem-solving process. For my English learners and students with special needs, being able to draw or label their thinking instead of relying only on written words has been especially powerful. One student in particular, who often struggles to express himself in writing, has become much more confident in class because he can now use the Apple Pencil to illustrate his ideas.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a real difference in our classroom, and my students light up every time they get to use this tool.
