The students were so excited to see everything they ordered! Please recall that everything on our list was picked out specially by them. Additionally, a kind townsperson donated manure and a second townsperson donated money for bags of soil. With their help and yours, our garden beds have quickly come to life! \r\n\tAfter unboxing and assembling everything, we started our flowers and vegetables inside in the plant starter trays. Then, we mixed the soil and manure together in the beds. Students had mixed feelings about getting their hands dirty, but it was a great experience for everybody. When the plant starts were ready, we transplanted them into the garden beds. Since then, we have been monitoring their growth and watering regularly. Our tomatoes died early on, but the cucumbers, peas, and flowers are doing great! \r\n\tWhen it is time to harvest, students will come to the school to help. They have already been talking about how we can grow and expand the garden project in the future. They would like to learn about turning cucumbers into pickles, getting the produce we grow into our school lunch program, and donating to local food pantries.
