In our emotional support classroom, moments of frustration can come quickly, and having something as simple as a snack helps my students reset and keep trying. Their reactions were priceless. Eyes widened, smiles grew, and several asked if the snacks were really for them. For many of my students, consistency and reassurance mean the world, and having these snacks available made them feel cared for. You could see the excitement but also the relief—knowing their needs were understood and supported. We are currently working on building independence and confidence during reading and writing tasks. Thanks to your generosity, my students can take meaningful breaks that help them regulate their feelings and return to work with a calmer mind. Our next steps involve slowly increasing their independent work time and celebrating each small victory along the way. Your kindness isn't just supporting our lessons—it's helping my students believe in themselves a little more each day.","fullyFundedDate":1764735695205,"projectUrl":"project/nourishing-hearts-and-minds-snacks-for/9873218/","projectTitle":"Nourishing Hearts and Minds: Snacks for Learning and Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Beckner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10064518_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750953926595","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10064518"},{"teacherId":10076052,"projectId":9457205,"letterContent":"When our new LEGO table and DUPLO block sets arrived, the enthusiasm in our Pre-K classroom was extraordinary! The students were immediately drawn to the bright, colorful materials and eagerly gathered around to explore. Their initial reactions were filled with curiosity and excitement; they could not wait to begin building and creating together.\r\n\r\nThese new resources have quickly become an essential part of our daily classroom routine. The LEGO table provides an engaging space for hands-on learning, collaboration, and creativity. Students use the DUPLO blocks to construct letters, numbers, and shapes, reinforcing key literacy and math concepts through multisensory play. Beyond academic skills, the materials also foster teamwork, communication, and problem-solving as students plan and build together.\r\n\r\nOne memorable project was our \"Community Helpers City.\" Students designed buildings such as fire stations, hospitals, and schools, then proudly shared stories about the important roles of community helpers. This activity seamlessly integrated early STEM skills with social-emotional learning and language development.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will use the LEGO table for a STEM Exploration Week, where students will investigate concepts such as stability, symmetry, and patterning. These resources have transformed our classroom into a vibrant environment where learning happens through discovery, creativity, and collaboration.\r\n\r\nWe are sincerely grateful to our donors for making this opportunity possible. Your generosity has provided our young learners with the tools to explore, imagine, and build the foundations for future learning success.","fullyFundedDate":1755020691524,"projectUrl":"project/integrating-literacy-math-and-stem-wit/9457205/","projectTitle":"Integrating Literacy, Math, and STEM with Duplos","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dowell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10076052_orig.jpg?crop=1781,1781,x0,y829&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755040115194","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10076052"},{"teacherId":514625,"projectId":9712457,"letterContent":"The generous donation has fundamentally transformed our worm farm project, equipping our students—who aren't afraid of a little dirt or hard work—with hands-on tools to explore gardening and sustainability in our urban setting. Our current focus is the \"Optimal Bedding Experiment,\" in which student groups use the new durable bins and specialized thermometers to track vital variables, such as temperature and $\\text{pH}$, across different worm habitats. The new high-powered digital microscopes have been a game-changer, allowing students to observe the Eisenia fetida worms' anatomy in minute detail. Their initial reactions were pure excitement, confirming that these resources make them feel like real environmental researchers who are discovering the hidden joy of watching nature (and worms!) at work. We are now moving into the crucial data analysis and application phase. Our students are modeling their collected data to determine which environment creates the most successful vermicomposting system. Following this, we will begin harvesting the vermicast (worm castings), which is essential for soil enrichment. This will be used to grow plants in limited spaces, directly mimicking the small-scale gardening and healthy food systems they see or could implement around their homes. The new resources make it possible for them to achieve tangible results, providing real-world experience in science and environmental stewardship. Our next steps are focused on scaling the solution and maximizing its local impact. Our ultimate goal is to expand the project to process all suitable food waste from our classroom and eventually the entire school lunchroom. This not only reinforces their understanding of sustainability and responsibility but also creates a valuable, nutrient-rich resource for our school grounds. Thank you for providing the tools that allow our students to combine their amazing work ethic with scientific exploration, proving that you don't need a large yard to successfully grow your own food.","fullyFundedDate":1761139745842,"projectUrl":"project/from-worms-to-wonder/9712457/","projectTitle":"From Worms to Wonder","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Koerner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-koerner"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_91355","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":641,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":39,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":58.5,"schoolId":91355,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Alexander D Goode Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Alexander D Goode Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/york-city-school-district/alexander-d-goode-elementary-school/91355"}
