The gaps I had seen, however, were in the availability of texts representing different perspectives, genres, and reading levels. \r\n\r\nWe are greatly appreciative of your donations as they have opened up doors to reading for our students. In particular, I have seen an impact in our students with learning disabilities. For example, one of my students who struggles with reading due to learning disabilities chose the poetry book--as they felt more comfortable with it; as an activity, they transformed the lines of the poem into complete, academic sentences following our grammar lessons on writing for academic audiences. This activity not only helped them to understand academic writing, but also helped them to make meaning out of complex texts.
