I have learned so much about the topic that I can't wait to bring back to my students. I learned various routines and methods for teaching roots, bases, prefixes and suffixes. Along with the training I have gained access to online learning materials. This includes slides for each topic as well as student reading passages and other graphic organizers. I am looking forward to teaching my students new morphemes and helping them connect the words to their reading. The multisensory methodology of IMSE is fun and engaging for students. I am hopeful that through learning more about word parts, my students will be better able to read challenging words and become more fluent in their reading. I have just started incorporating the new routines with one of my reading groups. They are enjoying making the morpheme cards and learning what he morphemes mean. They like looking at the pictures on the slides to learn new vocabulary words containing the morphemes.","fullyFundedDate":1757378892627,"projectUrl":"project/morphology-magic-from-the-institute-of-m/9398864/","projectTitle":"Morphology Magic From the Institute of Multisensory Education","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9444159_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1712346064983","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9444159"},{"teacherId":9304946,"projectId":9398875,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom project. They are extra willing to work when they know basketball is a reward option! I surprised a group of students last week with a new prize box. They had worked extra hard during our lesson and I wanted to reinforce their positive behavior. I took out the prize box filled with new toys from this project! They were so happy and excited. They did not expect to be given the prizes and loved them. Now they want to work for a trip to the prize box too. My students love the new materials. Included in this project were colored dry erase markers. They love picking out their favorite color to use when writing on the white boards. For example, if students are working letter recognition, I can search for that on the site. A variety of hands-on, engaging activities are available. With the help of your donation, I am now able to purchase these materials to better teach my students. I was even able to purchase summer review packets for reading and math. The training I received in the Orton-Gillingham approach to literacy was excellent. The training consisted of 5 weekly sessions, for a total of 30 hours of learning. I was taught the systematic methods of incorporating visual, auditory and kinesthetic techniques into literacy lessons. Throughout this interactive training, I had the opportunity to work with other teachers to plan and implement lessons. We practiced with one another modeling and teaching lessons. I learned various ways to implement hands-on phonemic awareness activities with my students. We learned methodologies to help students learn new sight words, learn new letters, blend words, write new words and more! Along with the training, I now have access to the Orton-Gillingham digital library. Here I can download resources for use during the lessons such as anchor charts, writing paper, and decodable texts. \r\n\r\nMy favorite part of the training was learning how to teach \"Red Words.\" These are words that don't follow expected spelling patterns. Students have to learn what new letters make the sounds. Throughout the process, students get to write the words using a red crayon. They write on \"screens\" so that they can have a tactile experience. When they write the words over the screen, bumps appear. They then feel these bumps as they trace and spell the words with their fingers. The students also get to stand up and tap the word on their arms. This along with the writing and tracing help students commit the new word to memory. Another component of the OG program is using sand trays. Students trace new letters in the sand and they repeat the sound they make. \r\n\r\nI have already begun implementing components of this approach to literacy instruction in my class. I have noticed an increase in student attention and engagement. They look forward to executing the new strategies they have learned. Students are catching onto the new routines very quickly. They are retaining the information they are learning and using it daily. I am looking forward to the continued use of this approach on my literacy instruction. I am optimistic and excited to see student growth in reading.","fullyFundedDate":1729101256668,"projectUrl":"project/comprehensive-orton-gillingham-plus-trai/8858957/","projectTitle":"Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus Training","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9444159_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1712346064983","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9444159"},{"teacherId":9444159,"projectId":8550838,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my project. I will use the the two read aloud books during my first few lessons with the students. I want them to identify with the characters and become excited for a new school year. One of the books, focuses on words students want to be their mantra for the year. With the beads provided in this project, students will have the opportunity to make bracelets with the word on it, similar to the character in the book. Students will be able to wear the bracelet the first few days of school as a reminder of a goal they set for themselves.
