My classroom is now a flexible seating classroom and while it might not sound like a big deal it really, truly is. I work with 10 year old children who need to move and who need to feel that they are in control of their own learning choices. Research has show that students who feel like they have a choice in how they are learning usually are more engaged and focused in the slearning environment. This has certainly been true in my classroom as I have two sections of children for Language arts each a verry unique individual. The flexible seating has allowed each child to make choices as to where they will best learn for the day. This has increased focus and and agency in their learning. It has also made collaborative work together a breeze as they are able to move and change seating as needed depending on group dynamics or project need.
