One moment that stood out was when a student came in having a rough morning. Their hair was messy, and they did not want to participate. I quietly offered them some of the supplies, and they used a hairbrush, dry shampoo, and a scrunchie. Within minutes, their mood changed and they were more willing to join the class. We have also had students use the makeup wipes after getting emotional, which helps them clean up and feel ready to learn again. These small moments really show how much these materials help our students feel better.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were very excited and thankful. They were especially happy about the hairbrushes because everyone has had a bad hair day. They liked the deodorant since they sweat after P.E. or sometimes forget to put it on. The chapstick helped with dry lips, and the scrunchies were used right away. The pads were also very appreciated because students said the ones at school are too thick. The snacks and cup of noodles were a favorite since some students do not always eat school lunch. Overall, the students felt cared for and supported.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will keep using these materials to help students build good habits and take care of themselves. We are teaching them to notice when they need something and ask for it. This helps them become more independent and confident. Some of our students struggle with hygiene, so having these supplies allows us to support them in a respectful way. We want all of our students to feel comfortable, confident, and not worry about being judged. When their basic needs are met, they are able to focus better and succeed in class.","fullyFundedDate":1766555856346,"projectUrl":"project/support-special-needs-students-with-self/9696900/","projectTitle":"Support Special Needs Students with Self-Care & Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mancilla","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9897060"},{"teacherId":7776791,"projectId":5442300,"letterContent":"During the Pandemic, I was able to use the monitor as a double monitor. The rewards you helped provide have become a powerful tool in motivating and recognizing our students for their hard work, perseverance, and positive choices. Whether it's for meeting academic goals, showing kindness to classmates, or making consistent effort during interventions, these rewards have given students a tangible reminder that their growth and contributions matter.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments came when a student who had struggled all semester earned their first reward. The pride on their face—and the applause from their peers—was unforgettable. That small recognition sparked a new level of commitment in them, and I've seen similar transformations across the group. The rewards aren't just \"prizes\"; they're symbols of progress, effort, and resilience that inspire students to push themselves further.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll be integrating these rewards into our ongoing academic challenges, goal-setting activities, and peer-recognition programs. Our students are already brainstorming creative ways to earn and celebrate achievements, which shows how deeply this project has energized our classroom culture. The snacks you helped provide have turned our intervention sessions into a welcoming, energized space where students can focus, participate, and learn without being distracted by hunger. Having a little \"brain fuel\" during our small-group work has made an immediate difference in student engagement and stamina—especially for those who come to our meetings right after a long morning of classes.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments came last week when a student walked in, saw the snack table, and said, \"This feels like we're VIPs.\" That small gesture—knowing there's something to eat—has boosted morale and made students more willing to share ideas, collaborate, and stick with challenging work. The atmosphere has shifted from \"extra help\" to a place where they feel cared for and supported, and that's been powerful.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to keep building on this momentum by diving deeper into reading comprehension and math problem-solving skills in our intervention groups. Now that our students come in focused and ready to learn, we can stretch our lessons further, work on more complex projects, and track their progress toward meeting their academic goals. Your kindness didn't just fill their stomachs—it's fueling their confidence and their success.","fullyFundedDate":1746600030871,"projectUrl":"project/brain-food-for-our-intervention-meetings/9254320/","projectTitle":"Brain Food for Our Intervention Meetings","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. TJ Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4456627_orig.png?crop=312,312,x0,y64&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1706814375422","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4456627"},{"teacherId":1748981,"projectId":9189825,"letterContent":"Students were very excited to have things to do when they were having a stressful day, ex: stress ball, color book and play dough. The pencils and paper made sure every student had supplies to take notes and turn in assignments. One student shared it helped him bond with his friends by trading play dough creations. The stress ball was really helpful for studying for tests and getting ready for presentations.","fullyFundedDate":1742929963695,"projectUrl":"project/seniors-wishlist-for-college-readiness/9189825/","projectTitle":"Senior's Wishlist for College Readiness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Romanak","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1748981_orig.jpg?crop=540,540,x0,y210&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569457136628","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/romanak"},{"teacherId":1748981,"projectId":9140622,"letterContent":"Students are so excited and thankful to have comfortable menstrual supplies. When they walked in the classroom with plants along the windows, cupboards full of supplies for their personal lives, they were pleasantly surprised. \r\n\r\nThroughout that year, students made themselves at home on the couch, on the chair and watering the plants. The items that were donated greatly contributed to making it a safe space. \r\n\r\nAlso, the toiletries were essential for students who were in need of basic necessities. Students who I didn't have in my classroom would often come to my door because their friends had told them they would be able to get feminine products in my classroom. No one was ever turned away.
