From the moment students first saw it, they were ecstatic. Their curiosity was immediate as they gathered around to explore the glowing surface, experiment with the translucent blocks and counters, and see how light transformed the materials. The excitement has continued every day since — students frequently ask if they can use and explore with the light table. Because the space allows for about five students at a time comfortably, we often set a timer so that everyone has a fair opportunity to engage and explore.\r\n\r\nStudents have been using the light table to build structures, solve problems together, count and sort counters, and create designs with translucent pattern blocks. During our math WIN (What I Need) time, the light table has become a powerful hands-on tool for reinforcing counting, patterning, and spatial reasoning. Because the table is placed in a dedicated corner of the classroom, students understand that this is a special space for focused exploration and collaborative problem solving. The excitement has spread beyond our classroom as well—students from other classrooms now visit during indoor lunch recess to engage with the light table and participate in creative games and building challenges.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are excited to expand how we use the light table in our learning. Students will begin using tracing paper to design and create their own illuminated projects while strengthening fine motor skills. I also plan to incorporate more literacy and math activities using letters, numbers, and magnetic translucent materials so students can explore reading and number concepts in a hands-on and engaging way. Because of your generosity, this light table will continue to inspire curiosity, creativity, and deeper learning for my current kindergarten students and many students who will visit and learn in our classroom in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1769615982952,"projectUrl":"project/glow-lab-light-table-exploratory-learnin/9942503/","projectTitle":"Glow Lab Light Table Exploratory Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10327682_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764022330463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mskinderclark"},{"teacherId":10327682,"projectId":9976062,"letterContent":"When our Lunar New Year materials arrived, the excitement in our classroom was immediate. The bright red lanterns and dragon decorations instantly sparked curiosity. Students began asking questions right away — Why is red everywhere? What does the dragon mean? \r\n\r\nDuring read-aloud, we explored stories about Lunar New Year traditions, symbolism, and family celebrations. Students made thoughtful connections to their own lives, comparing traditions in the books to celebrations in their homes. When we learned the legend of the Nian monster, the room was captivated. Students were especially fascinated by how loud noises and the color red were used to scare the Nian away.\r\n\r\nDuring exploration time, students created lanterns, crafted dragon puppets, and designed Year of the Horse head crowns. They also practiced step-by-step folding with origami paper, building perseverance and fine motor skills. One of their favorite projects was making paper plate shakers to \"scare away the Nian.\" As they proudly shook them together, the classroom filled with joyful noise and laughter — and deep learning. We also completed a directed drawing of a Fire Horse for our memory books, carefully adding details and labeling our work to document this special experience.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity and the support from Panda Express, this project transformed our classroom into an immersive cultural celebration. Students didn't just read about Lunar New Year — they experienced its stories, symbols, and traditions through hands-on discovery. We also explored zodiac animals and discussed how celebrations connect families and communities around the world.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping my kindergarteners experience learning that was joyful, meaningful, and memorable.","fullyFundedDate":1767235004647,"projectUrl":"project/a-magical-kindergarten-journey-into-luna/9976062/","projectTitle":"A Magical Kindergarten Journey Into Lunar New Year","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10327682_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764022330463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mskinderclark"},{"teacherId":10327682,"projectId":9919339,"letterContent":"When our new dramatic play materials arrived, my kindergarten students were absolutely thrilled. As we unpacked the dress up vests, play food, and stand together, their excitement quickly turned into action. Within minutes, they were organizing the shop, assigning roles, and creating their own systems for how things should run. Some students stocked shelves and sorted food by category or color, while others eagerly stepped into the role of cashier or baker. What impressed me most was how naturally they collaborated—negotiating roles, solving small conflicts, and using rich vocabulary as they interacted. The play felt purposeful and real.\r\n\r\nRight now, our dramatic play area remains a shop and kitchen, and it has become one of the most engaging spaces in our classroom. Students are writing grocery lists, counting play money, reading food labels, and practicing conversation skills. The materials you helped provide have allowed this space to feel authentic while encouraging creativity and reinforcing literacy, math, and social-emotional skills every day.\r\n\r\nSoon, we will be transforming the space into a post office. Students will help redesign the area, create signs, write letters, and practice addressing envelopes. This next step will build on the collaboration and imagination already happening and connect directly to our writing and community lessons. Your generosity has given my students more than materials—it has given them a space where learning truly comes alive through play.","fullyFundedDate":1764727283256,"projectUrl":"project/building-big-dreams-through-dramatic-pla/9919339/","projectTitle":"Building Big Dreams Through Dramatic Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10327682_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764022330463","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mskinderclark"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_24804","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":552,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":17,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":54,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":24804,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Abraham Lincoln Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Abraham Lincoln Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/oak-park-elementary-school-district-97/abraham-lincoln-elementary-school/24804"}
