With the addition of hockey sticks, fitness posters, trainer volleyballs, and Kan Jam games, our students are gaining valuable new experiences while developing skills in areas like volleyball and overall fitness. For many students, this equipment has introduced activities they have never tried before, creating opportunities to explore new ways of moving, playing, and staying active. The trainer volleyballs allow students to comfortably practice serving, passing, and setting, while the fitness posters guide them through exercises that build strength, endurance, and flexibility. These experiences not only improve skill development but also help students discover activities they may continue to enjoy beyond the classroom, supporting lifelong fitness habits.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their reactions were filled with excitement and curiosity. They were eager to try out the equipment, especially activities that were completely new to them, like Kan Jam and structured volleyball practice. This enthusiasm has helped build confidence and encouraged students to step outside of their comfort zones. The new equipment has created an inclusive environment where all students feel motivated to participate, explore, and develop new skills at their own pace.\r\n\r\nThe donated equipment has had a truly positive impact on our schools Physical Education program by expanding the variety of activities that can be offered and increasing overall student engagement. Students are more active, more willing to participate, and more confident in trying new skills because they have access to equipment that supports success at all levels. These resources have allowed me to create a more inclusive and dynamic learning environment, where every student can experience achievement and growth. Your generosity is helping us build a stronger program that not only enhances skill development but also fosters a lasting appreciation for physical activity and healthy living.","fullyFundedDate":1767319176174,"projectUrl":"project/every-student-every-skill-every-game/9746328/","projectTitle":"\"Every Student, Every Skill, Every Game!\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lombardi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10235240_orig.jpg?crop=2320,2320,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767360491726","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10235240"},{"teacherId":522163,"projectId":9762051,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, we have been able to create a Family Engagement Center that serves all of our students and families from kindergarten through 12th grade. This space includes three dedicated areas: a resource center with a food pantry and essential items such as clothing, jackets, backpacks, and shoes; a welcoming meeting space where we can onboard new families, host small focus groups, and hold community events; and a dedicated area where teachers can meet with and screen newly enrolled students. These resources have allowed us to better support our families in meaningful and practical ways.\r\n\r\nWhen the center first opened, we invited teachers and our Board of Trustees to visit the space and see the impact firsthand. Since then, several families have utilized the center and shared how much they appreciate having a private, supportive environment where they can access resources and connect with staff. Their positive reactions have reinforced the importance of creating a space that is both welcoming and responsive to their needs.\r\n\r\nAs we look ahead, our goal is to continue growing the Family Engagement Center and expanding the support we provide. We plan to deepen our connections with families so we can better understand their needs and ensure the center evolves to serve our entire community effectively. Your contribution has made a lasting difference, and we are excited to build on this foundation to support our students and their families even further.","fullyFundedDate":1770511453854,"projectUrl":"project/families-first-connect-support-inspir/9762051/","projectTitle":"Families First: Connect. This project has already had a powerful and visible impact on our school community, and it would not have been possible without your support. Because of you, our students now have consistent access to essential hygiene products that support not only their physical health, but also their confidence, comfort, and ability to focus during the school day. As a bonus, I can happily report that our school hallways are already smelling a lot nicer! What may seem like small, everyday items truly make a big difference for our students, and your donation has helped meet a very real and ongoing need.\r\n\r\nCurrently, we have two Hygiene Closets set up in our school to ensure access is both easy and respectful. One closet is located in my classroom and is open to students at any time. They are able to take what they need, when they need it, without questions or barriers. This setup has been especially important in creating a sense of normalcy and independence around self-care. The second closet is located in the teachers' lounge and allows staff to discreetly provide items to students when they notice a need. Having multiple access points has helped ensure that no student slips through the cracks and that support can be offered in a way that feels safe and dignified.\r\n\r\nThe response from students has been incredibly positive. Brushes and deodorant have quickly become the most popular items, and students have been genuinely excited to see these products available to them. I've noticed students feeling more comfortable openly talking about hygiene and engaging in classwide discussions in a respectful manner. These changes may be subtle, but they are meaningful. One of the most rewarding moments so far has been students coming up to me after lunch to ask for toothbrushes. This was something I never expected, but I absolutely celebrate it as a win for dental hygiene and overall wellness. These moments show that students are not only using the resources but also thinking more intentionally about their own self-care.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I am especially excited about how these supplies will be incorporated into our upcoming hygiene unit. During this unit, students will have the opportunity to create their own personal hygiene kits using the donated items. These kits can be kept in lockers or backpacks and used whenever an emergency arises, giving students an added layer of preparedness and confidence. This hands-on experience helps reinforce important health concepts while also providing practical tools students can rely on outside of the classroom. It's empowering for them to know they have control over their own care, and that their school community supports them in that.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in this project and in our students. Your generosity has helped create a more inclusive, supportive, and compassionate school environment. The impact of your donation reaches far beyond the items on the shelves—it shows students that their well-being matters. I am deeply grateful for your support and excited to continue seeing the positive ripple effects of this program throughout our school.","fullyFundedDate":1764687397837,"projectUrl":"project/afk-middle-school-hygiene-closet/9862720/","projectTitle":"AFK Middle School Hygiene Closet","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Culkeen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10334886_orig.jpg?crop=2356,2356,x1185,y1128&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761673225846","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10334886"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_66900","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1426,"numTeachers":109,"percentFrplEligible":58,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":56,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":75.5,"schoolId":66900,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/massachusetts-department-of-education/abby-kelley-foster-regional-cs/66900"}
