My 3rd graders have been enjoying the boomwhackers, exploring the sounds of each one, and playing along to play-alongs on the SMART Board. The 2nd graders have been exploring the rhythm sticks, and have been surprised with how much fun they had doing routines with them. 4th and 5th graders have begun learning the recorder, and similar to my 2nd graders, they have been surprised with how much they enjoy learning to play. Many of them have opted to take their assigned recorders home with them to practice and play at home, which I was pleasantly surprised about.\r\n\r\nKnowing that they had not had the chance to play instruments at all last year, and in some cases ever, I wanted to give them the opportunity to do so if I could make it happen. Thanks to all of you, it was possible! One of my 4th grade boys at the end of one class said out loud, \"this is actually fun.\" The 2nd graders, while following along to a rhythm stick routine video, eventually started semi-yelling with me, \"REST, *click*, REST, *click*.\" I smiled so big that I started laughing right then. Some of my 3rd grade students sang along with me to \"You're Welcome\" from Moana while playing a play-along video. One of them even got up and started feeling and moving to the beat while playing our warm-up. Every one of these moments filled not only myself, but my students with so much joy.\r\nWe will continue to have experiences and firsts, all of it thanks to your kindness and generosity.\r\n\r\nWe appreciate all that you have done to make this opportunity come to life.
