(A few actually said, \"Why couldn't we have gotten these earlier? They would have really helped us.\"). I know that these sewing machines will be of great use next year and for years to come.\r\n\r\nEvery year in Drama Tech, I teach a machine sewing unit. The students learn the different parts of the machine, how to thread them, wind a bobbin, and do some basic sewing. Every student creates a sewing project that they can keep (a bag, pouch, apron, wallet, or something more complex if they already have sewing experience). This class will have 30 students this year, so two more sewing machines will really help in providing each student more time on a machine to really practice sewing and work on making a real item from scratch. We also use the machines when we work on plays and need to make a costume or alter costumes for the actors in the acting classes. This skill of sewing will be something the students can carry with them into adulthood.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your contribution to the arts in schools.","fullyFundedDate":1777398398364,"projectUrl":"project/sewing-machines-for-drama/10101854/","projectTitle":"Sewing Machines for Drama","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sunderland","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5700206_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y10&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755640482146","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jill-sunderland"},{"teacherId":438854,"projectId":10118471,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous gift! My students DEVOURED these books! Were they long? Yes. Difficult? Some of them, yes! Did these books introduce them to actually important topics and relevant problems that they can connect with? Absolutely.\r\n\r\nI wish you could have been here for presentations! The amount that students actually learned and absorbed by following Louis Zamperini's story in Unbroken, by going along on the hunt for Adolf Eichmann, by seeing the destruction, death and havoc wreaked by pure corporate greed (looking at you, Radium Dial) - they all walked away from this project strongly recommending their texts to other students. \r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading happens in a million different ways. Some of it is shared reading with an anchor text. For this particular project, students watched videos and read short articles to build context before diving in to their novel. The background knowledge they gain paired with the strong texts you donated to them made them SO much more knowledgeable about the world around them. As we begin our unit on body systems, the model provides a hands-on opportunity to see how organs fit to scale inside their bodies. They can remove and replace organs, offering a memorable, lifelong learning experience.\r\n\r\nThe model also helps students connect structure to function—for example, seeing the heart's placement relative to the lungs clarifies how oxygenated blood flows. Being able to visualize how the organs fit inside their bodies makes and abstract concepts easier to understand than textbook diagrams alone.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the model supports collaborative learning. Students explore each body system in small groups, discuss observations, and ask questions together. This teamwork builds communication skills, deepens understanding, and sparks curiosity about health, biology, and potentially, a future career in science!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\\","fullyFundedDate":1756610648031,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-human-anatomy-to-life-with-a-3d/9609520/","projectTitle":"Bringing Human Anatomy to Life with a 3D Model","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Nadig","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9781402_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727393545052","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9781402"},{"teacherId":5700206,"projectId":9627082,"letterContent":"When I was able to tell my Drama Tech class that this project got funded (and within four hours!), they were absolutely ecstatic! These headsets will be used by the students in this particular class, but they will help the quality of all the productions we do at our school for years to come. \r\n\r\nThese headsets are used for students to communicate with each other from the backstage to the booth when in tech rehearsals and performances. The student stage manager calls their cues over the headsets to the light and sound board operators and to the stage crew backstage. The students can quickly let each other know if something is not right or a cue is coming up. And the students get to feel like real professionals when using this headset system.\r\n\r\nWe are so excited and grateful that your donation made this project happen so quickly. The students in the drama tech class got to try out the headsets to learn how to use them and experience what it's like to talk with others over the system.
