My Project
Physics can be extremely engaging when it connects kids to the world and things they want to be a part of. Self-propelling (pull back) cars can race down ramps or across the floor with an index card attached like a fin to make it easily visible by motion sensors or have spark timer tape attached to them and pull it through to for time data. Cups, tape, pencils, rulers, rubber bands can be the basis for a variety of catapults that will launch ping pong balls through the air (hopefully) with the greatest of ease.
Our goal is to engage in engineering design and data analysis in a way that looks and feels like play!
Engaging students with their own data, they will have the physical experience with the variables for graphing and interpreting and applying formulas. I can't wait to see their work printed in full color and hanging on the walls alongside pictures of them in the process collecting the data!
My students are amazing young people from a variety of backgrounds, countries, home-languages, and ability levels. Providing them with shared experiences is a way to build the community and common language in the classroom. These classes are mixed-ability, ICT, and mixed grade.
