Girls wrestling is a growing sport. This is going to be my third season coaching wrestling at this school and I decided to have some early beginner practices to get kids interested in what girls wrestling is. I did not expect to have so much interest over 20 new girls signed up for these practices. With the help of you I was able to give many of them a pair of shoes around their size. \r\n\r\nThese students were so grateful and surprised to not have to wrestle for their first time in socks as they heard returning student athletes had to do. They were even more thankful to not have to deal with knee burn since I had knee pads to give out. \r\n\r\nCurrently we are still in off season and the competition season won't start til March, however these kids are so excited to continue to break in there shoes and prepare for March in safe gear!","fullyFundedDate":1758899295100,"projectUrl":"project/wrestle-like-a-girl/9491301/","projectTitle":"Wrestle like a Girl!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fletcher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9494417_orig.jpg?crop=1693,1693,x0,y504&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753218868647","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9494417"},{"teacherId":8136192,"projectId":9388725,"letterContent":"On behalf of the Panther Press, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous support of our program. We can lend out books to students who are interested in reading them to their younger siblings or who want to share what they are learning with siblings taking science courses in college or want to experience topics we don't get to in a high school Physics class.\r\nReading is an active task in our class. Students are learning how to \"talk to the text\", to put their thoughts and questions on paper, to build their understanding of their own metacognition. They are grabbing post-it notes to write their questions and connections to their prior knowledge, and the learning that is happening in class. It is becoming a real conversation starter with kids responding to each other's comments and questions as they share the book and leave their mark.","fullyFundedDate":1747490506401,"projectUrl":"project/fun-with-physics-informational-texts/9233979/","projectTitle":"Fun With Physics Informational Texts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2755104_orig.png?crop=322,322,x0,y7&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1694033556303","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/evarose-davis"},{"teacherId":9027465,"projectId":9355987,"letterContent":"Thank You for Elevating Our Game!\r\nYour generous donation of new soccer balls has made an immediate and lasting impact on our girls varsity soccer team. We are so incredibly grateful for your support!\r\n\r\nThe new soccer balls have been invaluable in allowing us to run more efficient and higher-quality training sessions. With a full complement of well-maintained balls, we no longer waste time retrieving or patching old, worn-out equipment. Every player now has a ball at their feet for the majority of practice, which is crucial for developing individual skills.\r\n\r\nA specific moment that highlights this was during a recent dribbling circuit drill. In the past, we had to rotate groups using the limited number of good balls we had, leaving many girls standing and waiting. Now, with a ball for every player, the entire team could participate simultaneously. The energy level was noticeably higher, and the constant repetition allowed the players to perfect their technique much faster. We saw immediate improvement in their close control and footwork, which translates directly to success on the field.\r\n\r\nThe team's reaction when they saw the new soccer balls was pure excitement and gratitude. It was a tangible sign that people outside of our immediate school community believe in them.\r\n\r\nThe foundation we've built with these new resources is fueling our drive for the rest of the season. Our next steps involve:\r\n\r\nElevated Set Piece Training: We are focusing on refining our free kicks and corner kicks. Having dedicated, high-quality balls allows our specialists to practice their trajectory and power without interruption, giving us a crucial edge in tight matches.\r\n\r\nDeveloping Ball Mastery: We are now incorporating more advanced \"ball mastery\" drills into our warm-ups and cool-downs. Because every player has a high-quality ball, they can dedicate time to challenging individual moves and footwork, which will significantly raise the technical level of the entire squad as we head toward the postseason.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your incredibly generous contribution. You have given our players more than just soccer balls; you've given them the tools to succeed and the confidence to perform at their best. The level of engagement, skill development, and pure joy we've seen since their arrival has been truly transformative.\r\n\r\nYour new equipment has completely upgraded our indoor experience. The sturdy futsal goal is perfectly sized for our gymnasium, immediately setting a professional tone for the club. The low-bounce futsal balls are the real game-changer; they demand precise, quick passing and exceptional close control.\r\n\r\nThe students have adapted quickly, realizing they can no longer rely on power kicks or long-distance lobs. This forces them to work in small, tight spaces, which directly develops their indoor soccer abilities. Crucially, the need for precision has rapidly improved their communication. They are constantly shouting directions, making eye contact, and offering immediate feedback, transforming passive afterschool time into a constructive, dynamic learning environment.\r\n\r\nThe moment that perfectly captured the impact was during our first full-scale practice with the official goal. During a game the opposing team had crowded the ball. Instead of rushing in, a player learned to quickly move to open space and, without saying a word, communicated by pointing to the ground near the goal. His teammate, seeing his confident body language, immediately zipped a hard, low pass to his feet. The player received it, took one touch, and slotted it perfectly into the corner of the new net.\r\n\r\nIt was the First Futsal Goal—a moment of seamless, non-verbal collaboration. For the rest of the session, this player carried himself with a new confidence, and his teammates started looking to him for strategic movement. It was a powerful reminder that sport builds skills that translate directly back into self-esteem and collaboration.\r\n\r\nTheir reaction was immediate and wonderful once they learned that we would be able to provide them with indoor soccer! When we wheeled the goals out, there was an audible gasp. Setting up the official goal took a few minutes of excited teamwork before hand with myself and the PE teacher but the moment it was standing, it legitimized the club in their eyes. The low-bounce balls were met with curiosity—initially, they tried to kick them high, but quickly learned the futsal technique. That small challenge turned into an immediate source of collective problem-solving and focus. Their initial excitement has now settled into a deep, sustained sense of ownership and pride in the quality of their practice.\r\n\r\nOur immediate next step is to introduce specific, strategic futsal concepts. We are currently working on the \"Diamond\" (2-2) formation, focusing on maintaining shape and rotating defensively and offensively. This requires advanced communication and spatial awareness, pushing their teamwork skills even further.\r\n\r\nOur goal is to hold a small, internal \"Futsal Cup\" mini-tournament this spring. This will allow the students to apply everything they've learned—from close control and quick passing to effective team strategy—and experience the satisfaction of competing using their new expertise.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for making these powerful learning and growth moments possible.","fullyFundedDate":1746787378723,"projectUrl":"project/free-for-all-futsal/9328502/","projectTitle":"Free For All Futsal!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kersey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9027465_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1709155130366","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9027465"},{"teacherId":2755104,"projectId":8930064,"letterContent":"The resources you have provided have become a backbone to the understanding of my students through their own exploration and provided a sense that they are not limited and can, instead, try, fail, and try again. They have circled back to these ideas and materials to combine their understanding as they learned about impulse, momentum, and energy. These resources have been invaluable.\r\nWe are moving forward with the ideas around energy and its conservation by making paper roller coasters for marble \"coasters\". Students collaborated, discusses, engineered, and revised parachutes to increase the drag the paper clip experienced. Students collected data, analyzed it, and drew conclusions about the effectiveness of their design. \r\nWe followed up free fall with projectile motion and WOO! did we see things fly! The materials table was laid out with the array of materials available, the students did some research on catapults and trebuchets and ballistas, and the brains got to work. They explored materials, exchanged materials, tested different variations, and sent ping pong balls flying!
