My students need science materials such as a butterfly nursery, volcano kits, human x-rays and animal learning centers to get up close and personal with science!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Think about trying to learn about different animals or plants when you might not know what the animal is called because English is not your first language or you didn't even know that plant existed! My students are trying to get a handle on all the new names, but it is hard.
Many of my students speak English as a second language and come from a low economic background.
Many of them have not been to a zoo or have gotten to plant plants simply because that is not the big focus at home. They also don't know the names of many animals because they haven't been given the opportunity to experience different animals.
My Project
To help my students learn about different animals and plants, I am requesting a butterfly nursery where the kids can see caterpillars change to butterflies, volcano kits to build volcanoes and watch them erupt, animal classification kits, plant life cycle kits, animal life cycle kits and a pocket chart to help show the life cycle of a butterfly, a frog and plants.
My students need a chance to have a hands-on experience with different plants and animals to help them learn their names and more about these creatures.
They also need to learn about the life cycles of plants and animals to see how animals come into this world and how they change and grow.
