My students need portable, hand-held microscopes, slides, and a variety of life science specimens to study plants, animals, and INSECTS!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Maiolo's classroom raised $469

My Students
I teach third grade at a diverse, Title I school in southwest Florida. Sixty-one percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our students come from numerous cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Through lots of hard work, our school continues to help our students succeed.
My students love science!
They love to read about it, learn about it, and they especially love our school's monthly STEM challenges! Hands-on learning makes science accessible to all students, regardless of ability in other subject areas!
My Project
A big part of our science curriculum in third grade involves classifying plants and animals. This can be tough for third graders, especially when the only examples they see are pictures in their textbook. For this project, I am requesting some handheld microscopes and slides that will help them better understand the attributes and characteristics of a variety of plants and animals. I am also requesting some specimen sets so they can see other examples of (once) living things. I especially want them to see the characteristics of the different types of invertebrates so that they understand the differences between insects and other types of invertebrates. This is really tough for them to grasp!
Albert Einstein once said, "The only source of knowledge is experience." I want to give my students hands-on experiences with plants, animals, and insects.
It is my hope that these materials will help give them a better understanding of classifying living things! Thank you for your help!
