My Students
Do you remember
In my class, students of many races, ethnicities and learning levels share a common thread, as they discover the magic and delight of making something beautiful with their own hands.
My arts classroom is very diverse-and includes Gifted, English as a Second Language Learners, and special needs children with a variety of learning disabilities. I love that we all make art together in harmony and happiness.
My Project
In my art class, my students and I are excited to replicate the "If/Then" innovation project titled "If We Build Up Girls, Then We All Become STEMinists." This project resonated with me because I am passionate about funding STEM into my "Design Crafts" 3D art course.
To complete this project, first I will use the Macbook Pro to play the following two resources from the If/Then collection: Mission Unstoppable: Saving the Environment with Conservation Photography and Mission Unstoppable: This Scientist Trains Sharks (4:06).
Watching these videos will inspire students to think about an animal or habitat design, and they will use their 3D design craft skills in order to create an animal, habitat, or both!
Next, students will have the extension activity of using what they learned about creating 3-D objects for the animal project to create a piece of wearable art. This will allow the students not only to be instructed through the MacBook Pro on Zoom, but also to share their creations with their classmates on Zoom.
I know that exploring these If/Then resources through STEAM will help students use their creativity to understand how their talents will apply to future careers in art, STEM, or both! Thank you for supporting our classroom.
