This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every day my students come with a smile on their face to learn. They inspire me daily to give my best to prepare them for their futures. Many of them have the odds stacked against them, but they continue to grow. Despite their "can-do" attitudes resources are limited at my school.

My students have learning and cognitive disabilities that impact them academically and socially.

Some scholars in the room come from low socio-economic backgrounds and resources can be limited at home. Our school takes pride in excellence for all. In order to meet my students' diverse learning levels (ranging from Pre-K to 6th grade), personalized learning is a must in my classroom.

My Project

The resource specialism program (special education TK-6) is in desperate need of interactive, engaging workstation that builds on phonics skills and vocabulary with instant reinforcement. These ‘hear me speak” phones and ZINGO games will allow for my students to practice their phonics skills in a fun, interactive way and build their vocabulary to become better writers. Children use many different clues to read words. They look at pictures, memorize words, and guess words based on rhyming or story structure. But without phonics skills, they will not be able to figure out new words on their own. Children need a lot of practice decoding words before being able to read fluently. These phones and games will provide my students with the practice they need to decode words during workstation time. These items will be a great tool during workstations because the interactive and engaging. This excites students because the will become better readers and writers.
