My Project
Our students at my school are resilient, energetic, and full of potential. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique strengths to our school community, including students from the Catawba Nation. Like most middle schoolers, they face daily emotional and academic pressures, and we want to provide them with tools that support not just their learning—but their overall well-being. The library is already a safe and welcoming space, and this project will elevate that by offering calming yoga and mindfulness stations where students can take a short break to reset and refocus.
Students will be able to take a 5–10 minute break in one of several Zen Zones throughout the library—calm corners with yoga mats, foam blocks, and visual guides for breathing exercises and simple poses.
These self-guided stations will give students the chance to regulate emotions, reduce stress, and return to class ready to learn. Whether they are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply need a moment of calm, this space will offer them a positive, proactive way to manage their emotions. All resources—including yoga mats, posters, blocks, and cushions—will be available for individual use, promoting independence and mindfulness without disrupting the school day.
The goals of this project are to help students build emotional regulation skills, support their ability to refocus during the day, and provide a quiet, movement-based outlet to improve self-awareness and well-being. I love how thoughtful and open our students are when given the right tools—they just need safe, accessible ways to reset. With your support, we’ll create peaceful Zen Zones in our library that give every student the space to breathe, stretch, and power up for a successful school day.
