What may seem like small items—headphones, chargers, and pencil pouches—have made a big difference in the quality of instruction I can provide. Students are more engaged, focused, and eager to participate because they now have the tools they need to be successful.\r\n\r\nMany of my students come from socioeconomically challenged backgrounds, and purchasing even basic supplies like headphones can be difficult for their families. Thanks to your support, every student can now fully participate in music and digital activities without worry. The kids are over the moon excited about learning to play and participating in this new activity. They could not believe it when I pulled out the paddles and wiffleballs and told them what our new unit was going to be this past week. \r\n We worked a few days on hitting the ball back and forth keeping it under control. Goal was to see how many times you could hit the ball, let it bounce once, and partner hit it back. It took a while, but eventually even my 6th graders got up into the teens and twenties. Seventh and eighth graders were a little higher and loved competitions of who could keep going the longest.\r\n The goal for this week is/was pulling out the nets and having them do the same practice and competitions utilizing the net and side boundary areas. Sixth graders will mainly stay in this practice area building and improving their striking skills. Today we will start going over all the rules with 7th and 8th graders and start playing games. \r\n Again, my students are having a blast learning/playing pickleball. We even have a few teachers pop in during planning to play with the students. I cannot thank you enough for giving to my proposal and funding this new game for us.","fullyFundedDate":1727201284884,"projectUrl":"project/pickleball-101-middle-schoolers-learn-t/8581207/","projectTitle":"Pickleball 101- Middle Schoolers Learn to Play a New Sport","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Templeton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9634137"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6882","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":669,"numTeachers":55,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":31,"percentWhite":40,"percentIndigenous":3,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.6,"schoolId":6882,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Castle Heights Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Castle Heights Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/rock-hill-schools-york-county-district/castle-heights-middle-school/6882"}
