My Project

Creating a zen room for middle school students can be beneficial for their mental health. Setting aside a quiet room for students who need time and strategies to regulate their emotions helps them return to class feeling ready to learn. As a professional school counselor with over thirty (30) years of experience, I have seen the gradual decline in the social-emotional health of kids and would like to create a safe space where students can go to calm down and practice strategies needed to regulate their emotions. It can also be a place where they can recharge and reduce stress. This safe space will help respond to the rising mental health challenges among students; it can be a solid intervention for students who need support beyond what teachers are able to offer in the classroom. The zen room will include options for students to have solitude and discuss what they are experiencing with a counselor and return to class rejuvenated.
