My 5th grade classroom is composed of diverse, brilliant, problem-solving students. They come from a variety of cultures, multilingual homes, and religious backgrounds. They need to feel accepted and their diversity celebrated and supported in the classroom.
Students in my classroom thrive in a calm, safe, engaging and energetic environment.
This particular group of students has a lot of social-emotional needs and requires love, sensitivity and lots of hands-on learning experiences. The classroom needs to have a comfortable and safe aura for my students to thrive.
My Project
This project will support students in their social-emotional journey to a safe, caring and nurturing learning environment. These items will create a calm space where students can meditate, read, study and create.
This space will include fountains, orchids and comfortable seating for students to learn, create and study in a safe, calm place.
This project was inspired by a spa/yoga space that changed my life. Panic disorders, anxiety and depression are on the rise and this space will allow students to heal and have their basic needs met.
Studies have shown that mindfulness meditation and spaces increase productivity and decrease negative behaviors. This space will allow students to learn and feel safe at school.
