My elementary music students are eager, hungry little musicians who want to sing, say, dance and play all the time. They sing as they come down the hall to music. They tell me they share songs from music class with their families at home. They love learning about new musical artists, playing instruments, singing, and composing their own music.
My students are in need of a new alto xylophone so they can successfully play instrumental music.
Currently, we have an alto xylophone that is well past it's prime (I suspect it's over 30 years old!) and it's hard for the student to use. The bars bounce off as students play, and it does not have the same range as the other instruments, meaning it does not have the same notes as the other instruments. This makes it a challenge for students to play our music when their instrument doesn't have the same notes as everyone else.
My goal for this project is simply to provide my students with materials that are user friendly. They love playing the instruments! But they don't love it when the instrument in front of them falls apart with every beat, and doesn't have the correct notes for them to play. A new alto xylophone (which will last 30 years) that matches the others in our collection will be so much more useful for my students and allow them to engage in a more meaningful musical experience.
