My Students

Students Benefit form having a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction materials in the classroom. Throughout a person's life they are expected to read non-fiction in many settings including textbooks, newspapers, magazines, and throughout college. Yet, students access to non-fiction is limited!

I have a wonderful group of fourth graders who all come from struggling homes.

They LLOOVVEE non-fiction. They devour it and can't wait for more. When I bring in a new book there is a rush to have the book in their hands. They love learning about different cultures, countries, habitats and animals. Their current favorite is 'Dirty Jobs' after the popular TV series. They are often running over to me exclaiming, "Look what I learned in this book!" I have a good amount of fictional stories but really lack in non-fiction literature. Thank you for considering my classroom for this opportunity.

My Project

I have selected non-fiction books which focus on different types of habitats. Children love to learn about plants and animals in parts of the world that they may never visit. I also chose books which include poetry, interesting animals and some biographies including Famous African Americans.

Teachers are continually purchasing items for their classrooms.

Books are an area that we can't do without and I have spent time perusing garage sales and book sales. This non-fiction book selection will be a wonderful addition to our classroom. My students will be able to search through interesting habitats, learn about famous historical figures as well as awesome animals!
