Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school in East San Jose. A majority of my students are first-generation Americans with hardworking immigrant parents. Seventy percent of the students at my school are receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
I teach a wonderful group of kindergarten students.
My students are hardworking and enthusiastic learners. They are easily motivated and enjoy attending school every day. They are always excited to try and learn new concepts. My students inspire me every day to be a better teacher.
My Project
One of the most common complaints that I hear from my Kindergarten students during recess and class time are "I'm hungry" and "Can I have a snack?" These complaints inspired me to write this proposal. I teach at a Title I school, which serves low-income families. A majority of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students depend on our school for a complete breakfast and lunch but they are always complaining about hunger. It just breaks my heart.
I am requesting for healthy snacks such as goldfish crackers, cereal bars, and rice crispy treats so that they could be passed out during recess and snack time.
I also keep a small group of students for extra help. At the end of the day, they need healthy snacks to help them concentrate and focus. These items will provide my students with the essential nutrients to learn and grow.
