Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school in the South Bronx. The students are very diverse; we are a mix of African-American, Latino, and some new arrivals from the Middle East and Africa. The school goes from 3K to fifth grade and over 95% percent receive free lunch.
My students come from very diverse families.
I am excited to share that my school is a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My scholars are creative, thoughtful, and full of excitement!
My Project
Our school provides breakfast and lunch for our students but not a snack. Students have an option to bring snacks from home to eat later in their school day. Many of our kids are unable to bring snacks and are hungry. When they are hungry it is hard for them to concentrate on learning.
These snacks will provide a healthy snack my students can munch on after their lunch break in the afternoon.
This will allow them to concentrate and focus more on their work and not worry about being hungry throughout the day. By having these snacks available in the classroom, my students will feel loved and cared for.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
