Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a small Title I neighborhood school tucked between tree lined streets, just blocks from the freeway and busy city intersections. 85% or more of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. My class includes English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented students, and Special Needs students. They are energetic and curious! They come to school with a variety of experiences and benefit from hands-on learning where they can engage in the 4 C's of 21st Century Learning; Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity.
"The best way of learning about anything is by doing."
My Project
With the sudden shift to Distant Learning, some of my students are left at home with siblings and caregivers while parents are at work. Although I email and text information, many families do not have printers at home. At this young age, my students are still learning how to manage their time and day. They still need the guidance and direction at home.
With the postage stamps, I will be able to send their daily/weekly plan checklist and extra fun activities, along with stickers and words of encouragement.
With no contact with their peers, except on Zoom, receiving tangible mail is something they can look forward to, and a printed plan will provide some structure and routine to their day.
