Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The current situation my students are facing is very hard to deal with. Many families are struggling in their day to day because of the lack of basic living necessities. Many of the parents have been laid off due to COVID19 and are now in charge in managing their children's education. This has been very difficult for the students in my school because many of their parents are immigrants and can not help them with their school work, especially the one that is in English.

One thing has not changed in my students regardless of the hardships the families are enduring is their eagerness to learn.

Many of them are doing the best they can with what the resources they have available.

My Project

My students participate in the dual language program so they need to receive instruction in English and in Spanish. Finding resources that are high quality in Spanish is very difficult. Lucky for us, many amazing bilingual teachers have created some of these great resources that are available for purchase on Teachers Pay Teachers.

My students deserve to have access to high quality learning resources in Spanish despite of the close closures.

Not only are my students limited to resources in Spanish, many of them are not able to access digital activities because of the lack of technology or internet access in their homes. My students will receive printed out packets of high quality Spanish resources in the mail to continue their learning in a dual language setting. Many of the parents have also said they want resources they can help their children with. This will allow me to empower the parents so that they feel a lot less stressed with having to teach their children in a language they don't know.
