This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach in a self-contained (special education) kindergarten classroom in a brand new school in a high-need community.
All my students have significant delays in language and social development. I am working hard to increase cooperative play and peer interactions. Since we are a brand new school, we still need many resources.
My students desperately need pretend play props to support play. Since they present many delays, pretend props are KEY. Furthermore, children learn best through play. By developing different play scenarios, I hope to increase peer interactions (turn taking, and back and forth communication), their language expression (stories and planning) and provide new vocabulary.
It is essential to provide the environment and tools to support cooperative play. Please help my students develop the skills to successfully take part in our classroom community and sustain peer interactions, increase receptive and expressive skills.
