Our school is located in Ponchatoula, Louisiana about 46 miles North of New Orleans. Not only were we affected by the destruction of Katrina and Rita, causing our school to close for three weeks, but we also enrolled over 50 displaced students at the time our school reopened. I realize how frightening it can be for students to enroll in a new school setting. Even parents need a friendly, informational welcome. I would like to engage every class (28) in this project, to create an informational CD using video and a presentation program that will welcome students, parents, and visitors to our school. Students will create a digital presentation on CD that will introduce the educators, administrators, and support staff, show locations on the school campus, explain rules and school wide procedures, while promoting an "open arms" welcome to our school. Students will work together to gather and organize information about our school. They will take digital pictures and videos to capture D.C. Reeves Elementary School in motion. Students will write paragraphs explaining the pictures taken. Students will learn to speak and communicate information. Students will learn to use a video camera to record this information. Finally, students will build a Photo Story (software) into a wonderful presentation about our school, burn CD's, and label them. CD's will be available for checkout in the library, viewed by new students and their parents, and shared with other schools at appropriate times during the school year. Students will be proud of their work, their school and their welcome to others.
