Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a rural area outside a large city. Many of our students are struggling readers and therefore struggle in all areas of study. 70% of our school district is considered - At Risk and 81% are Economically Disadvantaged.
Our school serves both 5th and 6th graders who would love to have technology, but the school struggles financially and does not have money for equipment or supplies.
It is my goal to encourage reading through clubs and multiple projects that spotlight great writing and authors. I want kids to fall in love with reading because they have enjoyed books at this age. I want to make lifelong readers of these struggling students.
My Project
The Library YouTube Club reads and creates their own book talks for our school YouTube channel, Whatya Reading. We also post the videos on the Library Website for all students in the school to see.
Our goal is to give interesting information about a book without any spoilers.
Many of our students have a difficult time finding a book to love. Many of our students are reluctant readers who do not enjoy reading because they struggle with it. This project will help match books to readers.
iPads make recording and editing super fast, enabling us to upload more videos to our sites. We will use these iPads to streamline the video process and put out our videos at a faster pace to allow for more book choices for all students.
