This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has many wonderful, energetic, athletic, kind, caring, and intelligent students.
Some of the challenges faced by our students are homelessness, poverty, crime, and high transient rates.
Since becoming a teacher at our school I have been so impressed by the students' maturity level and hunger for learning.
Our students do have many challenges to overcome, but they are also very resilient and can overcome the challenges with your help. Your donations will enable me to reach the students at their level and engage them like never before.
My Project
Each summer, our youth wrestlers get a chance to learn wrestling skills, get fit, and compete in a Showcase Wrestling Match (Team Cardinals Red vs Team Cardinals Black). Our high school and middle school coaches team up to encourage elementary students to give wrestling a try for about 6 weeks and we hope that they will become wrestlers for life.
Our main problem is that the students and families cannot afford to purchase wrestling shoes for this big event.
Our young wrestlers practice in their socks for 6 weeks and then on match day, we sanitize their street shoes and allow them to compete. Having real wrestling shoes will make the students feel better about competing and they will be so excited to put official gear on their feet to show what they know in front of their parents and families.
