Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I think pizza is the best food ever!" one student exclaims. "Why?" I simply ask. Then there is silence. Students know how to state their opinions but need help learning how to defend that opinion.

Our school is an applied learning school where students' learning is primarily through project based activities.

The students are eager to learn. The majority of students in my class are English language learners. Because students are learning English, we focus on reading fluency and comprehension.

My Project

These book titles (Click, Clack, Moo!, Red is Best, Duck! Rabbit! and Should I Share My Ice Cream) are excellent representations of opinion writing. Students are expected to be able to state their opinion and back it up even in kindergarten (though it does look very different than a dissertation). These books are considered "mentor texts." This means that they can be used as examples to show students how defending their opinion looks when writing.

In kindergarten we are building a very important foundation for higher learning.

Students are given the tools to become lifelong learners. But most importantly, they will realize a passion for writing as well as an understanding of how to defend their opinion. I hope to instill this love and understanding in each and every student with help from you.
