First grade is a busy year where students start to work on a lot of different skills academically and social-emotionally. I have a busy group of first graders who are learning a lot about their emotions and how they relate to others. The requested materials will help students to explore their emotions in a safe way.
My students are learning that their emotions are valid no matter what.
The rug will provide a designated area that students will be able to safely go when they need a break. The posters provide strategies for students to use when they need to calm down. The calm down kit provides tools to help them calm down as well.
The Understand Myself Match Up Game helps them practice scenarios and how they would respond to them. A Little Spot of Feelings Story and Plush toys will provide a story they can connect to that helps identify their emotions. The writing and coloring items will be used for students to be able to draw and write about what they are feeling.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
