Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Pre-Kindergarten. I think that Pre-K is very unique grade level. My youngest student is 3.9 years old, and my oldest is 4.9 years old! My children come from very low income homes. My kids speak many languages; Arabic, Bengali, Spanish, and English. We are part of NYC Mayor's Mike DeBlasio's Pre-K initiative. This initiative guarantees that every four-year-old in New York City will have access to this life-changing educational opportunity, with roughly 70,000 children expected to enroll. It seems to be a great success. I am proud to be part of it. It has indeed provided my Pre-K students with a special, unforgettable opportunity to increase language skills, cognitive skills, and socio-emotional skills. It is amazing to see these children grow.
My Project
I am excited to post this request for materials because I think these are some of the coolest science tools around. They are bright, colorful, and attractive. What kid, or adult, wouldn't be drawn to these materials?!
I cannot wait to show my Pre-K kids Simple Machines.
The kids will gain insight as to how pulleys, wedges, and screws make work easier. I cannot wait to hear the "cools" as the kids discover cause and effect when they raise and lower objects on an elevator or move cars along a conveyor belt.
I am not sure who will be more excited; me or the kids, when we explore Create-A-Chain Reaction STEM Kit. Ramps, pendulums, hammers, switches, placement, distance, and angle! The new language alone will be so beneficial. What a great introduction to gravity, force, and momentum!
