My Project

Flexible seating allows students to maximize their learning individually and in collaborative groups. It allows the teacher to assign specific learning groups based on student needs or lesson targets. Independent work time can be best facilitated when desks are not arranged in groups and the student will have a feeling of independence during test taking and certain other independent projects. The ability to place these desks in groups of two or more will allow students to collaborate during science using skills during lab experiments and making scientific observations. My students are noticeably more inclined to collaborate well together and reach a consensus in science class when arranged in groups that are just the right size with just the right students. We also have science club meetings in my classroom after school and these desks will permit many different possibilities for students to work together in groups that they form themselves to compete in what we call "Science Challenges". Our meetings are short, and these desks can be arranged and rearranged quickly in order to compete in these challenges effectively!
